The Northside
Alcoholics Benevolent Association, Inc. (NABA) whose members are its stockholders, is a private non-profit corporation
duly chartered under the laws of the State of Georgia.
Under NABA by-laws, a person must be a member of AA and with a sobriety of 30 days before
becoming eligible to become a member. NABA welcomes anyone with these qualifications
to submit an application for membership. NABA is not only interested in providing a
port of safety for its members but wishes to offer the out-of-town AA visitor a "home
away from home" where he may enjoy its facilities. AA members in metropolitan
Atlanta are also welcome to use the club facilities for a period of 30 days, but after a
30 day period is expected to make application for membership if they wish to continue to
use the club facilities. If they are financially unable to pay a monthly pledge, it
is necessary to make some arrangement with someone on the Executive Committee.
NABA has no connection whatsoever with
the AA groups that meet at the club and anyone is invited to attend these meetings whether
they are a member or not. In fact, they are most welcome.
When a problem drinker comes to NABA for help, we have created for him or her an
atmosphere of dignity and well-being - this is what we shall always maintain in the
management and operation of NABA. NABA will not tolerate the drinking of any
alcoholic beverages on its premises, nor is the club interested in sobering up individuals
who are seeking only temporary sobriety. It is not a hospital in any sense. It
is not a hang-out for undesirables, nor will it permit any conduct detrimental to its
members and NABA in general.
